I began training in October of 2004, during my Sophomore year at OSU. I was aware of the martial arts clubs from my visits to Larkins Hall (the recreation center at the time) throughout my freshman year, and eventually gave in to my curiosity. After researching the 20+ martial arts clubs extensively, I decided that Buckeye Tang Soo Do was worth checking out. It exceeded my expectations immediately, as the quality of the instructors was higher than anyone I had met before, and the students were so friendly and welcoming. I couldn’t help but join, and from the friends I have made, the classes I have undergone, the events I have traveled to, and the responsibilities I have assumed, I know this was one of the single most positive decisions I have made in my life thus far. I graduated from OSU with a bachelors in psychology in 2007, and continued to train while I volunteered later for Americorps. In April of 2009, I earned my black belt. I returned to OSU to pursue a masters degree in Occupational Therapy in the Summer of 2009, with an expected graduation date of December 2011. In the past, I have served as the club president. I have also helped the club into many opportunities for charitable services, from participating in the swim for diabetes to teaching the art to developmentally disabled young adults. As a class instructor, I enjoy the opportunity to teach others while simultaneously learning from those senior to me. From my days as a white belt up through the present day, I have watched people grow and mature as their physical training they have pursued has influenced them mentally. I look forward to improving my teaching abilities every class, and playing my part to uphold the sterling reputation that belongs to Buckeye Tang Soo Do.
